FEA or CFD: from scan data to analyses

The Mimics Innovation Suite has enabled sophisticated, multi-component finite element models of complex anatomical structures to be generated from CT and MR data. The advent of forward engineering (digital CAD) significantly reduces design time and simplifies the modeling process.

Finite element simulations are extremely useful to assess, ex-vivo, local stresses, strains or pressures as a result of affecting forces or flows on anatomical structures or implants. They help understand biomechanical phenomena and improve implant performance.

With the Mimics Innovation Suite, preparing complex anatomical geometries for accurate simulations is no longer a time-consuming, complicated task. By working directly on mesh files during the entire process, preparation time is significantly reduced. As the Mimics Innovation Suite combines design and meshing operations, you can modify your designs based on the simulation outcomes.

Use the Mimics Innovation Suite on image-based 3D data to:

  • Optimize and defeature surface meshes
  • Generate volume meshes semi-automatically
  • Assign material properties based on image gray values for more accurate simulations
  • Export to FEA/CFD package of your choice
